A collection of photo manipulations created in Adobe Photoshop. All the pieces were based on prompts for a digital art class at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
On the making of Tycho's Chameleon:
The assignment this piece is based on was to transplant a chameleon into a foreign environment. I chose to depict the chameleon emerging from the remnants of Tycho’s supernova (the official name is SN 1572.) At first I thought it might be a simple as layering with opacity effects, however I quickly realized that this method gave the chameleon a ghostly quality, which was not my intention. I wanted to the chameleon to retain its presence while camouflaging with the supernova.
The method I eventually chose involved layering a grayscale version of the chameleon on top of painted dots drawn from the colors in the supernova. Bellow is an an image of the two layers side by side. The use of the painted layer achieved the desired result, and was used in finished piece.
